"Conservation is the careful management of change. It is about revealing and sharing the significance of places and ensuring that their special qualities are protected, enhanced, enjoyed and understood by present and future generations.

The essence of conservation work is about the respect and care for existing building fabric. It is always better to conserve than restore, to repair rather than replace. One should be careful to make alterations reversible where possible and always carry out honest repairs.
